Roman Reigns extended his incredible WWE Undisputed Universal Championship run after defeating Jey Uso at the SummerSlam. The latest encounter against Jey marked Reigns’ fourth title defence of the year. Reigns has been the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion for around 1,070 days and The Tribal Chief does not have any intention of conceding his title soon. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, an outlet that reports on the wrestling promotion, has now shared a major update on Reigns’ future as the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion.
“I outright asked a WWE higher up when Roman Reigns would lose the WWE Undisputed Championship for a story on http://FightfulSelect.com. ‘Whenever Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman f*****’ say.’ Details behind what that means creatively, Cody, Zayn, WrestleMania shortly on Select,” read a tweet shared by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com. The main event of this year’s SummerSlam had a surprise element for the WWE universe.
During the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship fight, Jimmy Uso decided to come out suddenly to betray his brother Jey. Jimmy’s intervention was enough to help Roman Reigns in retaining his title. Following the clash, Reigns’ manager Paul Heyman spoke about the future of The Bloodline.
“I don’t know. What will you do when the Earth blows up and we all live on Mars because of Elon Musk? Case in point, bottom of the third and you’re asking questions. The Bloodline disbands. We’re there already. That’s it. There’s no more stories to tell. We already know why Jimmy did what Jimmy did. We already know what’s going on between Solo [Sikoa] and Roman Reigns. We already know where the wise man Paul Heyman stands. We’ll do it all on Friday. Calm down a little with the progression of the storyline. We’ve been doing this for three years, and not once since have I heard a credible person say it’s been dragging on,” Heyman said at the post-SummerSlam press conference.
On the other hand, Roman Reigns won the then-Universal championship back in August 2020. Two years later, he succeeded in winning the WWE championship in April at WrestleMania 38. The WrestleMania 38 triumph helped Reigns in unifying the two championships.
WWE have so far done a commendable job in terms of their storytelling involving The Bloodline. With Jimmy Uso’s shocking intervention, Jey, in all likelihood, will now be busy confronting his brother. This offers Cody Rhodes a great opportunity to have a crack at the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. According to multiple media reports, The American Nightmare is expected to take on Roman Reigns in a title-deciding bout at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 40. Reigns is not advertised for next month’s WWE Payback and the longest-serving champion of the modern era does not appear to be quite likely to defend his title once again anytime soon in near future.
